146 Fri. Dec. 4th There is a huge sameness about the scenery. It reminds one rather of Salisbury Plain. In places one comes across large river beds almost dry and here and there are roads - so called - alongside the line. I have ceased to wonder at the protests from Colonial Riders in motor Cycling and about the weakness of frames. Scatter about miles apart are little villages of mud huts and frequently one comes across a native sitting under a tree though there is no village anywhere near apparently.

Bullocks seem to be used entirely as draught animals. In Bombay there were horses pulling ghainjs??? but all goods cartage was by bullack cart.

At Khandwa where there is a junction with the B.B.C.I.R. tea was issued to the men - this was their Breakfast Teas! at 15 o'clock.

I got some tea myself at a stop about 5.0

Somewhere about 8.30 we reached Itarsi??? There a hot meal and hot Tea was issued to the men in a field at the side of the line. Some officers managed to get Dinner here. I didn't. The men were immensely pleased with this meal. They say it is the best they have had since they left Sithingbourne???!

A trainload of West Kents left jut before we did. They are going to Jhansi???

There is a train of RFA or someone behind us. We just saw them at Bharsaral???
