144 Thurs Dec 3. which the officers walked back to the Restaurant Car for Dinner. We had already issued a meal to the men at ????puri. We got back from the Restaurant Car while we were on a siding waiting for the Mail to pass. The procedure at the meal stops is thus. Then men do not get out before ordered to do so. The orderly Sgt goes up to the Adjt for orders & then reports to the subaltern 1/C the Corp (for this purpose) Then they draw rations re according to those orders. The night was jolly cold. I was very glad I had my rug & greater with me. The provide no bedding at all on the trains. Fri Dec. 4. We seemed to have stopped pretty much in the same place all night. We were due at Bhusawal at 7.52 and we approached a big station about 7.30. I got up in a huge panic only to find it was Chalisgaon?? about 100 miles before Bhusawal. At this stop my bearer turned up with some tea and about an hour later we went back for breakfast. Incidentally we have done some shunting in the night. Our coaches were astern at starting but are not forward -- while the Restaurant Car which right? right? forward is now right aft! They have just turned the whole thing round. At Bhusawal we returned from Brekkers & the men had some rations issued to them -- but no tea.
