Thur Nov. 5.

Hickling, sending his head on to the floor with a nasty lump. However he is pretty thick headed so no damages ensued. Then many more rough and tumbles, in one of which about 6 of us were pushed back on to a chair. The chair was very sorry for itself when it emerged. It had only one arm left & no legs. Eventually after 3 tries had been scored on each side half time was called. When we blew the whistle to resume we found that half the sides had streaked off to the billiard room. Some went down there & past rude remarks on their play. Then I & 5 others had a game of pool which we hadn't finished by 10 to 12 when the Col. expressed a wish to return to the ship. It was fortunate that we could all see straight as we had to go down a street that was all steps. I must say I did enjoy the Rugger. I have been spoiling for a game for months.

It was rather curious meeting that fellow Leeson. He asked me if I new a chap called Maccassey at Harrow. Maccassey is apparently chaplain of the 8th: and when I went to Oxford he wrote to Leeson asking him to look me up. However he didn't but instead we got thrown into each other's way here at Gib!

There is still much uncertainty as to when we shall sail. The naval authorities are beginning to get just a little excited. The latest report says 5.0pm tomorrow
