Sat Oct 10. Still in. Amused myself in eve. "jellygraphing" the programme of training for N.C.O's. Sun. Oct 11. Knee somewhat better. Jellied a note on trenches & a copy of this map & issued the lot with the programme of training to NCO's. Beech's brother was down to-day. He is apparently something naval, or B.M.S. He swears British gunners were in Liege. Antwerp has fallen as it has been expected to. They apparently hadn't enough money to fortify it against the big German guns. The whole Belgian Army got away. 2000 of our RN volunteers got rushed into Holland and so were interred. Rough luck! The battle line is extending like mad. Practically Antwerp-!?Bale! Mon Oct 12. Nothing very exciting tofday. Still in. Very bored. Beech went on leave in eve. as the Corp? or 50 of them are to be "rinoced"? tomorrow. Finished those Kit Returns & payments & have got things square at last I think. Shall probably pay the men on Friday. Tue Oct 13. Doctor thinks I may be out tomorrow. Cheers. Nothing doing in the morning. At H.O. a meeting of O.C. Corps & 1/C Specialists was suddenly called. General Young came down to inform them that the Division sails for India on the 25th!!!!! It comes from Kitchener Direct (via general Young & the G.O.C. this ???) Of course there is "tremendous" excitement. I have written about a dozen letters!
