12 Tue. Sep. 22. him get really annoyed, or as Holt put it "furious". All he said when I met him was "Well Findlay I am damn sick!" but he said it as if he meant it. I am bored because I was just getting to know "E" Corp? I knew the NCOs & was getting to know the men. After mess Holt & I looked in at the ??? again. The orders had reached the Col. Sgt. About 9.10 I rose to leave to go & report to Beach. Lucas said "Don't go yet sir! I want to say something before you go" so I had to wait while he made a pretty speach. Loud cries of "shame" from the Corp? at the news. Then they gave 3 cheers & sang "For he's a jolly good fellow" (& its surprising what a time it takes to sing) and then 3 more cheers. Of course I had to make a speech in reply. I said things more or less appropriate things & then left amid more cheers! Very dramatic! By the time I got to the Vicarage Beach had sallied forth to the Officers' Mess to look for me but of course when he came back I had been waiting for ages. I have a shrewd suspicion that he had his choice -- at any rate from the companies with ?? ????. Of course the cause of all this is ???. When the non starters (Foreign Service) were relegated to two new companies "O" & "P" Kenyon of "D" took charge of "O". Lt. Little was left in charge & has run the corp since. He has let the company down very badly so now he has been put in the signallers -- who at present have no officers. Thomson of A & Hewlett? of F have gone to D & as Pope? of A
