60. Mon. Aug 31 Company work only. Tea - Dinner we ???. Mess is at 8.0 & after mess one is quite glad to pack off to bed. Tues. Sept 1 awards was much like Aug. 31.The same sort of programme each day. I rather astonished the company one day by a little munitions We had done it in the morning as a ?? and the company had found some difficulty in distinguishing between wheels and ??? so I did it more or less, as far as was possible with a single cyc. at one's disposal. On Friday there was the ceremony of Pay. Stratton did the actual paying while Holt & I counted the money for him. Sunday. Sept. 6 Church Parade at 9.0. There are 4 battalions billeted in Setting???? - the 7th 8th 9th & 10th and we all get a service one battalion at a time. The poor Padre gets a busy time. Our own chaplain is down here & he helps. Mon. Sept 7 Half the company was vaccinated to-day. Stratton & Holt were with them. So I had to take the ???? out with the Battalion. After a turn at B???on Drill I was left with the cy. As we were standing easy along came Maj. Hewitt -- a New Coll Oxford man -- he wanted to know if I had "A or B" & asked several questions about Oxford. After that we did some outposts work. I talked first & then ???? groups & picquet.
