20 Sun Aug 2] unfortunately it was too misty to see much! From there we came down The Bridges & round via Prince Straits to the gardens. We went on, after a rest there, to St. Johns. Found the service was at 7.0 so on again to the Cathedral which was 6.30. Walked quietly back. Another special edition is out. We are now bound to go in! The Germans have seized Luxemburg of whose neutrality we are one of the guarantors! It is said now that Germany mobilised on Friday. France has mobilised by now & will adopt a defensive attitude. Germany has crossed her frontier at Nancy? & Cinly? It appears now that Germany declared war on Russia just when Austria had said she was ready to discuss matters with Serbia! 21 Mon Aug 3 Naval reserve called out. Navy mobilising. All territorials are returning or have returned to their H.Q. This looks bad. Sir E. Grey made a speech this morning in which he practically said Germany has been determined to have war all along & as she has invaded Luxemburg we must go in. She also declines to undertake to respect Belgian neutrality & has made us an offer to remain neutral. Our reply is an order for the mobilisation of the Army & Special Reserve to take effect tomorrow!

Despite the war in the air we went to Callton till this a.m. and hence to (& over) Hollywood? Palace. We did not see more than half of it but what we saw was worth the "bob"? I think. Then
