Thurs June 18

Got it without the least fuss: So vanished to the station for the 8.37. Saw the remains of yesterday's smash at Reading. The two engines & the express train were on sidings. The Express was "County of Leicester" & the poor thing was very damaged. The cab was torn off, the cylinder ripped open & the bogie carriage hopelessly smashed. The whole lot was badly burnt.

The other engine "Reading" 4.4.0 was badly burnt. I suppose it was just knocked over. The train had slices taken out of the sides of the coaches in a very weird way. It speaks well for the strength of the underframes that the lot didn't topple over.

Got to Padd about 10. 10 min late as we had to pull up at Reading. Pater met me there quite unexpectedly. He had been to Whiteleys & got away in time to meet me. Went to Baker St with him.

Got home about 11.0. Grandpater was there. He came up last week. Don't know how long he is stopping.

Pater got back about 5.0. I had to leave home again by the 6.43. Mater came to Padd with me. Pater came to Will Gn because he had a meeting there. Mater was going to meet him there on her way back. Got into

Will Gn is probably Willesden Green
