Sat Mar 28

Spent the morning getting the Pater's bike ready for action vice mine "retired hurt".

Mater returned from Devon at 7.30. Pater met her at Padd. I met her Harrow on the bike and went straight on to Watford (in uniform). Arrived at the park just as they were ready to begin. I was looking after a terminal (flag and lamp) we got a fair number of messages through. Some excitement was provided in the aft. by a runaway territorial horse. A man sent to assist the owner in his pursuit gave me a beautiful salute as he passed. He looked rather fed when I told him I wasn't an officer! However when he returned I had a little chat with him. He said the result of the Boat Race was Cambridge won 4 lengths. Rotten! but not exactly unexpected under the weather conditions.

At 6.0 we started lamping and a man on my station who had been a Boy Scout started a fire which we kept going till we left at 9.30 - and we weren't sorry we had it, despite the smoke at the start.

The main party caught the 10.2 from Watford Junc. to Euston. As it did not stop at Harrow I caught the 10.15 preferring train to riding Bushey hills on a single gear!

Sorry I couldn't understand more.
