Sun. Jan. 25.

is a curious place. It is built like the Italian churches. The ornamentation inside is very fine though only one side has been done so far. There is no East window, but an apse. The musical is Anglican not Gregorian. There is a provincial accent in the singing unknown at Cowley though it is more hearty than there. On the whole I enjoyed the service very much indeed.

Rode to Abingdon & back in aft.

"Uggere'd" after tea & wrote home.

Went to St Marys in eve to hear the Bishop of London. His sermon was in preparation for the mission next week. He spoke of the mission as Jesus of Nazareth passing through Oxford and emphasised

the fact that there will, as all faithful Churchmen must believe, - be a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit during the mission.

Went on to Balliol after. Plenty of room and got a seat easily. As usual programme was excellent. I think I liked the Schumann better than the Schubert. Met Joyce as we left & he agreed.

Mon Jan 26

Nothing startling to. day. Went to Cowley as his new place in St Aldal??? is at 4.30 for Jowa???. He has a fine place there if it is all his! Ancient exterior thoroughly up to date interior!
