Sun. Jan. 18

Went for a walk with Lascelles in the aft. via Upper River. &c.

Uggerised after dinner. Balliol at 9.0. The programme was excellent as usual. No. 5. "Variations on..." was not quite up to the standard of the rest. No. 2a was a peculiar affair. The soloists part was but one note all the way through. It is thus a sort of accompaniment to the accompaniment. The effect is peculiar but fine and gives the singer plenty of opportunity for displaying his or her powers of expression. It would go well on an organ. Jam a pedal note down as the singers bit and play the accompaniment on the manuals in the usual way.

Mon. Jan. 19

Started the morning well by doing work. About 10 went around to Ugger. After that spent about 3 hours in Japhense's buying and helping Dixon to buy music.

Had a bath in the aft. A good hot college bath! Oh the joy of it! The length and the heat of these is simply great. (in it's two senses)

Wandered round, by invitation, to tea with Robinson. Had dinner at the Cadena then went to see "The Great Adventurer" It is a lovely play. Such an amount of sheer humour in it. The plot is not very striking. A painter who is supposed to be the finest modern painter is a rather eccentric person

Very interesting! Glad to have helped you!
