Up to an early hour this a.m. (1.45 a.m. to be precise) I had intended catching the 10.25 from Stockport but Mr Ball persuaded me to wait for the 12.19. Therefore 11.35 found me on Heaton Chapel Station waiting for the 11.38 (from London Rd) to Stockport. I said good-bye to Mrs Ball at Redcroft but Mary came with me to S'port. About 12.10 a train came in from Blackburn &c 2 coaches of which were through to London on the 12.19. As there was plenty of room in there I bagged a seat and when the London Rd portion came in was very glad I had done so as it was pretty full.

Mr. Ball arrived from Reddish about 12.15 (and brought my specs) so both he and Mary saw me off.

We were hauled by an N.S.R. 4.4.0 to Stoke and thence to Willsden by a Precursor. There was nothing startling about either run though I have altered them in my Log Book.

Pater met me at Willesden. He came over yesterday from Harlesden I was supposed to have come home on Sat. so as to have been able to entertain him but chiefly owing to that Whist Drive on Monday which Mary promised to go to and to take me to with her I had to make my excuses. However I learnt that Ted entertained him by
