184 Wed. Apr 7 wall & a swedish game. Then went to the club & played ch????. Not so hot to-day which is a welcome change. Thur Apr. 8. G.G.?? again to-day. Rather an amusing incident occured at Rations. We have 2 prisoners in the cells (one R.A.M.C, one R.F.M 4 oz. of meat was issued for them and laid on the table. Suddenly there was a rustling of wings & away went their dinner in the claws of a "shawk." Unfortunately for the hawk, he got very flustered by a number of crows round him & dropped it. However the hawks loss was a dog's gain and the meat disappeared ??? ally. Wrote all the morning in the intervals of duty. Finished in the afternoon then played tennis with Williamson. Licked him 6-1 6-5 3-2 or 15 games to 8 which shows how rotten he must be. C.E.M.S. meeting in the evening. We had it in the open air. The Padre read a paper on Sunday Observance & we managed to work up a little discussion after-wards. He very wisely took the view that it must largely be a matter for a man's own conscience but that the force of example had to be reckoned with. Fri. Apr. 9.
