32 Fri. Aug 7 gets into touch with every resident & puts them in touch with the society which caters for the branch of help which they wish to undertake or conversely which will give them the help they need. The scheme is v.g. Sat Aug 8 Leige still holds out. The Germans have been repulsed with a loss of 25,000.(official). They are apparently retiring for a breather! That is still at large in the Mediterranean but our people are in hot pursuit. To night comes the news that we have seized Togoland? (German W. Africa) Poor Germany. Went up to Samuel's this morning. ??? them to put in had the altering of my OP tunic to 2nd Lieut. was measured for a "Greater" but they have to wait???before going on with that. Copes arrived (by arrangement) at much the same time & together we wandered Whitehall way. Saw them change the guard at the Horse Guards for the 1st time in my existence. There was a huge crowd at the Scotland Yard recruiting office waiting to enlist. Came home via the Pater's office & with ???. Miss Turner came over in the aft & is staying till Monday. Had a walk in eve to the top of the hill (Mt.Pk) & back. Got a letter from Mr. Coy in a.m. agreeing to hold over the Fish if I get a commission. I hope it comes -- & that soon!
