Wed. Aug. 5 War on Germany declared as from 11 pm last night! Admiral Jellicoe has assumed Carine??? and of the heet???. The State has taken over the railways. Sir John french has come back to be Inspector Gen. of the Forces G.B. has bagged two Turkish Battleships built on the Dyne??? Also two destroye leaders built for Chili. Went over to Harlesden with the Mater this afternoon. Found Aunt Rhoda at Aunt Lizzie's. A. Rhoda is very "down" at Uncle Wallace's having to go. He is still at the depot at Portsmouth so she hears today. She wants to go off nursing! If Jim is apparently rather dumpy about things too I wrote to the O.C. OU??? O.C. to say "willing if are & M.T. Coy afce???" and to call M.T. Coy to ask them about it. Shan't hear before Friday I suppose. Causes of the war. ???NEWSPAPER CLIPPING??? Daily Mail 5/8/14
