Thur. Jan.1. After our New Year ceremonies last night we - not unnaturally - did not rise with the lark to-day. As a matter of fact we had breakfast about 10.0. After an early lunch Mary & I left Mr. & Mrs Ball at home to look after the house & went to Buxton to see the tobogganing. As a thaw has set in it was not so good as it might otherwise have been. However the tobogganers seemed to be enjoying themselves & we enjoyed watching them. We had tea at the "Shakespeare" and caught the 5.32 home. It was absolutely packed. However it carried us safely to Stockport which was the chief thing. Played cards (solo) in the evening
